Is Litespeed for me?

I have a new VPS setup that I am going to test for speed and security as future options for my hosting and right now I am looking into Litespeed and lighttpd as alternatives to Apache, but I am not sure how to proceed...

I would like to test Litespeed + eaccelerator to see just how fast it can make my PHP pages, but I am clinging on to the old suphp/mod_security/suhosin setup I have come to love...

I am also not sure if the free version would be enough for my VPS (3-4 accounts with low to modest traffic)?

What would you advice for optimal speed for PHP pages and still have a tight security?
