Coding .htaccess into webserver config?

I have a pretty hefty .htaccess file for my website and was wondering if there is a way to code it directly into the webserver config to speed things up a bit?

If so, how/where?

may be not necessary. litespeed is much more efficient than appche regarding .htaccess handling. you can run and watch litespeed for some time before considering to convert .htaccess rules.
