$VH_ROOT in External App "Command" for Virtual Host Template

When I try to use $VH_ROOT in the path for an External App's "Command" option within a Virtual Host Template, I get the following error:

Input error detected. Please resolve the error(s).

*file $VH_ROOT/current/app.rb does not exist. Please create manually.

Naturally, this file shouldn't exist yet since it's determined dynamically based on the hosts configured for the template. This is occurring on Litespeed Web Server Standard v3.3.24.

Some details of the environment:
* Ubuntu 8.10, 32-bit
* LiteSpeed API External App being created

I do not know if this has worked in previous versions.
