Error - Compile PHP with LSAPI

I get the following error when trying to complete the php setup on Ubuntu 14.04 T
Fail to generate build script, please try to manually fix the error first.
ERROR: Unable to detect download method (install curl, fetch, or wget)
Any help would be much appreciated.

compiling PHP is an old way to use PHP and not recommended.
