.htaccess file location on server

.htaccess is normaly at the doc_root of the domain. On control panel, it has different design location for doc_root, such as /home/user/public_html, or something else depending on your control panel. If you install LSWS natively, you are the person to set doc_root. If you are a shared hosting user, just ask your host.

Thank you. It probably should be /public_html/, as that's where the website "root" is located, but all I'm seeing is .htaccess_bak. I'm beginning to wonder whether .htaccess is on the correct branch and need to investigate that. Thanks again.

Thank you all for your patient replies. It turns out that after a server migration some time ago that the file was deleted (by me, of course). Thus the evidence was staring me in the face from the outset (in both cPanel & FileZilla) - .htaccess simply wasn't there, notwithstanding the presence of the file in a subdomain branch and the backup file on the root. I've now restored the file and solved the mystery.

Thank you all again.
